About Barcelona El Prat
Barcelona El Prat Airport handles over 60 million passengers in peak years and serves as a hub for Vueling. Its two runways are oriented to handle the predominantly Mediterranean wind pattern, but the airport is sensitive to the Tramuntana — a strong, cold northerly wind from the Pyrenees — and to occasional severe Mediterranean convective storms in late summer and autumn. Runway capacity is a limiting factor and the airport has long-running expansion plans.
