About Athens Eleftherios Venizelos
Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport is Greece's largest airport and the hub for Aegean Airlines. Opened in 2001, it operates two parallel runways designed for simultaneous independent approaches. Athens has a warm Mediterranean climate with very few weather disruptions, though summer convective storms can develop rapidly in the afternoon heat. The airport handles enormous seasonal variation — a relatively modest base load in winter swells to one of Europe's busiest operations in July and August as tourism peaks.
