About Málaga–Costa del Sol
Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport is southern Spain's busiest airport and one of Europe's primary sun-and-sea leisure gateways. A single runway handles all traffic on the narrow coastal strip between the Mediterranean and the Sierra de Mijas. The airport is subject to strong westerly winds — the Poniente — that channel through the mountain gap and can make landings challenging. Summer traffic is dominated by UK, German, Irish, and Scandinavian charter and low-cost carrier traffic.
